My work for many years as a studio artist is divided into two parts with a psychotherapy practice in between. Over forty years ago my primary medium was ceramics, first as a potter, then after graduate school, as a ceramic sculptor. Since my decision in 2023 to limit my psychotherapy practice, I have more time now for making art.
In addition to claywork; watercolors and occasional oils have been part of my focus. My subject matter ranges from representational to abstract. For example, the Eruption Series gives expression to an intense emotional aspect of human nature through the metaphor of volcanic eruptions. Also, a recent series of watercolors of flowers close up, varying from recognizable to mostly abstract, has allowed me to express my wonder and awe at the often stunning colors and fragile beauty of this part of nature.
